Centuries of wine tradition celebrated in Nave do Barão

Some of the Algarve’s best wines will be available for tastings

Nave do Barão, a small village in inland Loulé with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 13th century, will host its annual wine festival on Saturday, April 6.

The event will feature some of the most renowned wineries in the Algarve, from Adega do Cantor, Quinta do Canhoto and Quinta da Tôr to Quinta da Malaca, ÚNICA-Abegoaria and Catuna e Silva, as well as a “considerable number” of regional winemakers with their homemade wines, including some from Nave do Barão, who will take part in the Loulé Wine Contest.

The event will also feature a Handicraft and Regional Gastronomy Fair, which will be held simultaneously, and will end with a concert by a local accordionist.

The event, which is free to visit, runs from noon and runs until after 7pm, when the closing concert will begin.

How to get there?

Associação “Os Barões”, which organises the event, is located on the 1184 municipal road in the village of Nave do Barão.

For those travelling from Loulé in the direction of Salir, you will pass the small villages of Andrezes, Vendas Novas da Tôr and Mesquita. After Mesquita, look for the T-junction with a road sign indicating Nave do Barão to your left. Follow the sign into the valley until you reach the village. The festival venue is located just after the entrance to the village on the right hand side.

If you are coming from the N124/Messines exit of the A2 motorway, you should follow the road towards Paderne/Salir. After you pass the village of Alte, you will reach Benafim. Follow the village road until you reach a roundabout and turn right. Follow this road until you reach a T-junction with a road sign indicating Nave do Barão along the left side of the road. Follow this road to Nave do Barão. The festival site is at the far end of the village.
