Cheese, wine and sausages take centre stage in Faro

Event celebrates its 10th anniversary this year

Faro is hosting the milestone 10th edition of its Cheese, Wine and Sausages Fair until Sunday (April 20) at Jardim Manuel Bívar.

This popular food fair is already a big name on the Algarve’s foodie calendar, and this year promises another delicious round of Portugal’s best traditional goodies. Around 30 exhibitors from all over the country are rolling into town, bringing with them top-quality cheeses, cured meats and wines.

Visitors will be able to sample iconic cheeses like those from Serra da Estrela or Serpa, the best sausages and cured meats from the Alentejo, and a wide range of wines covering several regions, from the Algarve and Alentejo to Douro, Dão, Tejo and Bairrada.

The Faro parish union, which hosts the event, highlights that many of these products come from Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) regions and have even won awards in national and international competitions, which ensures that the product selection is of the highest quality.

Just like in previous years, the fair will also have a covered area with five food stalls.

The event runs non-stop from 12pm to 11pm every day, offering a laid-back, friendly atmosphere where you can eat, drink and enjoy the good vibes, organisers say.

Wine fans can also buy a special event glass and walk from stand to stand trying different wines, or take advantage of fair-only deals to stock up on their favourite bottles.

The event, which is free to visit, is described as a “unique opportunity for those who enjoy traditional Portuguese flavours”.
