CHEGA councillor accused of threatening political rival with knife resigns

José Rogério Silva – the CHEGA councillor accused of threatening a political rival with a knife, and damaging his car, has resigned, in spite of the fact that the party’s national jurisdictional council – knowing of the incident that allegedly took place in 2023 – did not ask him to step down. In a post over social media today, Silva has said he resigns his position on the national council and his party membership. The news however has been somewhat lost in the melée of furious soundbites today, concerning disparaging ‘off-mike’ (but overheard) remarks made by the CHEGA bench about a fellow member of parliament.
