With 48 MPs elected to parliament in last Sunday’s legislative elections, CHEGA is in a position to be represented on the Council of State (the body established by the Portuguese Constitution to advise the President of the Republic in the exercise of his/ her discretionary powers), as well as to the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (the body with the power to appoint and/ or dismiss magistrates). Until now, the seats on these two councils were shared between PSD and PS (as the country’s principal political parties). Smaller parties had never elected enough MPs, or polled enough votes, to qualify. This has now changed, with CHEGA’s vote total exceeding 1.1 million.
CHEGA’s overwhelming election result means party can now be represented on Council of State
