Christmas hamper costs 23% more this year

All the basic products of a typical Portuguese Christmas meal – bacalhau (salt cod), potatoes, cabbage, olive oil and eggs – are more expensive today than they were at the start of the year, reports Expresso, referring to the fact that, according to consumer watchdog DECO, in some cases food has increased in price by 30%. Totting everything up and doing the sums, DECO calculates that the basic Christmas ‘hamper’ this year is 23% more expensive than it was in 2021.
