People across Portugal are advised to take special heed to weather forecasts as heavy rain, strong winds and floods are predicted for the rest of the day today (October 9) and tomorrow, Portugal’s National Civil Protection Authority (ANPC) has warned.
Extreme weather conditions are most likely in the south and centre of Portugal, according to ANPC.
The civil protection authorities warn that if the weather continues this way or worsens, drainage systems may clog up and cause floods.
ANPC recommends:
• Making sure drainage systems do not become clogged.
• Tying up or preventing any loose structures from being blown away with the wind.
• Taking care when driving. Do not drive through flooded areas and pay special attention while driving in areas where trees and vegetation may be partially blocking the roads.
