Civil protection tests emergency plan for ‘rupture of Barragem de Bravura’

Just after 6pm this evening a press release went out to news offices informing of an official ‘exercise’ which took place earlier today to ‘test the emergency plan for a risk of rupture of Barragem de Bravura’ – an Algarve dam so critically-low that various tributaries have taken on the aspect of thriving scrubland. Bravura 22 “was played as a Command Post Exercise and Table Top Exercise” and “resulted from a decision by the Faro District Civil Protection Commission”. It was of “supramunicipal scope, as it involved the Municipal Civil Protection Services of Lagos and Portimão, whose municipalities will be affected by the flood wave if the dam bursts” … in a very alternative reality. Perhaps the most bizarre soundbite of the day…
