A group of six Portuguese from the Climáximo movement invaded the green of Oeiras golf course today, ostensibly to plant an urban vegetable patch. They arrived equipped with hoes and started churning up the grass, before making off as golf course security arrived. Last year, Climáximo invaded the Paço de Lumiar course, in the capital, to cement up some of the holes. The impetus in both cases has been given as to “stop criminal and maladjusted consumption by the super-rich“. “In times of drought, maintaining golf is criminal,” Climáximo said in a statement.
