Climate activists call protest for ‘massive resistance’

Environmental movement Climáximo has called for a “demonstration and action of mass civil resistance” next Saturday in Lisbon, dubbed “Parar Enquanto Podemos” (Stop While We Can). In a statement, the movement appeal to society “stop the normalisation of the violence of the climate crisis caused by governments and companies”, referring to the recent floods in Valencia, Spain, as an example of the impact of climate change. The aim of Saturday’s action is to create a “massive popular mobilisation” to “dismantle the fossil industry and implement a transition plan based on social justice and that respects planetary boundaries”, say the activists. The event will begin at 3pm in Praça Paiva Couceiro
