Colombia’s ambassador to Portugal says international cooperation is the only way to combat the global problem of drug trafficking, arguing that current strategies against crime are failing. “Drug trafficking is a global problem and must be combated through international co-operation, in all instances, given that the fight against this type of crime has so far failed,” said Lisbon-based ambassador, José Fernando Baustista, during a speech yesterday in Lisbon entitled: “Latin America: The impact of organised crime on violence and citizen security and its effects on regional politics’.
