Constitutional Court prohibits caretaker government’s appropriation of title ‘AD – Democratic Alliance’

AD originated with PPM (Monarchist party) now no longer a coalition partner

By shedding the PPM Monarchist party as a coalition member, the PSD/ CDS-PP caretaker government has lost its right to use the initials ‘AD’ (for democratic alliance) in the upcoming elections on May 18. PPM’s president Gonçalo da Câmara Pereira argued that doing so “would defraud voters”, and the Constitutional Court has agreed with him. The two-party coalition now has to come up with a new ‘joint name’… in record time. Televised debates ahead of the elections are due to start next week. ND
