The Municipal Assembly of Lisbon has approved the sending to the Constitutional Court of a popular initiative designed to crackdown on the number of ‘Alojamento Local’ licences in the capital. The idea of the initiative is to hold a referendum on the whole subject of Alojamento Local in the city, in the hope of stopping new licences being awarded to owners of apartments in residential buildings. Mayor Carlos Moedas and his party are against the initiative, but it was voted through by left-wing members on the council which has no working majority.
