With a team of villa rental specialists who all share the same passion for the Algarve, SandyBlue believes it’s important to support local businesses and charities. There is always room to do better.
So, we are proud to announce our most recent partnership with ARA (Animal Rescue Algarve) as we continue to champion the many voices of the Algarve who are doing amazing things for the region.
Introducing ARA
Animal Rescue Algarve is a non-profit institution located in Cabanita, Loulé. In operation since 2018 without any municipal support, the shelter consists of 48 kennels and three catteries, one clinic, one laundry, one reception and 15 outdoor parks for the animals. With 90% of the staff volunteering their time, it is a great cause with people who are passionate about animal welfare.
The shelter promotes awareness-raising activities in 14 schools in the municipality, as well as fundraising campaigns in various locations. One of the biggest sources of funds for the shelter is two charity shops selling second-hand donated items, with 100% of the revenue going back to the shelter.
How SandyBlue is helping
Fair treatment of animals is at the core of our values. So, our team realised we could help the stores really stand out with unique items. With over 100 exclusive properties in our portfolio, many of our owners invest in upgrades and refurbishments throughout the year. As such, we encourage our owner partners to donate furniture and other unwanted items directly to the store.
We also want to share this great cause with our database of guests, both new and returning. For all bookings, a small opt-in donation will be available for guests. They can also donate more should they wish.
These small actions contribute to a bigger difference. SandyBlue strives to embrace ethical entrepreneurship, drive positive change and support local businesses to enhance the community, company values and customer experience. Other examples of our mission are to include locally sourced goods for our luxury welcome baskets which highlight smaller businesses doing amazing things, be it soaps, candles or fresh produce.

Our company ethos is simple – supporting local businesses and charities means supporting the Algarve as a whole. It allows our team to get involved with the community so that we can offer guests and owner partners a truly authentic taste of the Algarve and what it offers to so many people.
