Court workers convene protest for start of judicial year

Portugal’s union of court clerks (SFJ) has called for a silent protest outside the Supreme Court of Justice at the opening of the judicial year next Monday (January 13), against the proposed career review, and is considering future joint protests with the other union in the sector.

In a statement released today, the SFJ said the protest is “only intended to (re)remind all those who are part of the ‘edifice’ of justice, as well as the political and executive powers, that there is a profession that everyone recognises as having been wronged for too many years and that is fundamental for this ‘edifice’ to function in favour of the citizen and the rule of law, which needs due and deserved revaluation”.

The union is not holding any strikes at the moment, as it has agreed to negotiations with the government, due to start on January 16, and end by February 28.
