Fans looking to be in the stands for the F1 and Moto GP Grand Prix, due to take place at the Algarve International Racetrack in Portimão in April and May, will have to undergo a Covid-19 test, reports Público newspaper. The publication says that the test will be included in the ticket price.
This is reportedly part of a series of proposals that the racetrack has delivered to the national health board (DGS) in hopes that they will be approved. Allowing spectators to be in the stands for the two major motorsports is one of the main goals of organisers and the racetrack.
Público adds that only 10% of the racetrack’s capacity will be open to the public for the MotoGP (to be held from April 16 to 18) while the percentage will be slightly higher for the F1 GP (April 30-May 2).
Organisers will be looking to avoid the same mistakes as last year, when a lack of social distancing was detected in some parts of the stands during the F1 GP, spurring a wave of controversy which resulted in no fans being allowed to attend the MotoGP race just a few weeks later.
