The University of Algarve (UAlg) has suspended all on-site classes until March 27 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
In an official statement, the university says that the measure is being taken as a precaution and that there haven’t been any “confirmed or suspected” cases of Covid-19 infection at the school so far.
“However, given the evolution of this pandemic, and to ensure the health and safety of the university community, we needed to take exceptional and additional measures,” the university said.
While on-site classes are suspended, the university will “urgently” try to implement “long-distance teaching methods whenever possible”.
All sports and cultural events have also been suspended until further notice, as well as all travelling while on duty and all on-site meetings of contest juries.
However, the university’s residencies and cafeterias will remain open to aid the UAlg students who are unable to return home during this time.
