Portugal recorded 4,451 new cases of Covid-19 between December 11, 2023 and January 7 this year, an increase of 43% compared to the previous 28-day period, which runs counter to the decrease reported in Europe. According to the WHO, Europe reported more than 701,000 new cases between December 11 and January 7, a decrease of 13% compared to the previous 28-day period. Portugal is among the 10 European countries – of the 62 that have transmitted data to the WHO – with increases of more than 20% in new infections, ranking 7th, ahead of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
