CP (Comboios de Portugal) has been waging strike after strike in the interests of winning better pay and conditions. Trains are currently subject to industrial action until August 31 – and now unions have delivered another pre-strike notice, to extend their working-to-rule from August 29 to September 9. In other words, there will be a form of ‘double striking’ between August 29 to 31, and then ‘another strike’, until September 9. It is details like this that saw the prime minister’s announcement of a €20 rail pass put into perspective. Critics said “what is the point of a rail pass if none of the trains are running?!”
