Crochet nativity scene unveiled at Castro Marim church

A crochet nativity scene was unveiled on Sunday, December 1, at the church of São Sebastião in Castro Marim, where it will remain on display until January 6.

The nativity scene features hundreds of intricately designed figures created by local couple Maria do Carmo Pires and Ernesto Pires, who worked all year to add new pieces to the display. Maria, who has been crafting crochet nativity scenes for six years, is also involved in the creation of Castro Marim’s famous salt nativity scene, also currently on display.
