Curtain up on a bench!

The curtain goes up this weekend on the latest offering from The Algarveans Experimental Theatre Group “A Bench In The Sun” by Ron Clark. This is the second play for the group this year, following on from the successful “Ladies’ Day” in March.

The play is being staged at the Convento de São José in Lagoa in the intimate 90-seat theatre.

A gentle and warm comedy packed full of one-liners tells the story of Harold and Burt, long-time friends who live in a retirement home and spend their days on a bench in the garden bickering. A once famous actress has just moved in, giving them something new to argue over. When they learn that the home is about to be sold and they will have to find a new residence, the three join forces to prevent this upsetting development.

Director Jim Landis and his cast of three have been in rehearsals since March.

Saturday’s performance is sold out although the box office may have returns on the night. There are a few tickets left for Thursday and Friday (June 27 and 28), so act quickly if you do not want to miss this great little show.

Tickets priced at €10 can be bought at Convento de S. José or at the Auditório Carlos do Carmo in Lagoa.
