Cybercrime: is your business at risk?

With cybercrime being the largest growing crime, with an estimated annual global cost of US$338 billion through fraud and lost time, local businesses and residents should be made aware of the steps that can be taken to minimise the risk.

Associação Safe Communities Algarve, in conjunction with the Polícia Judiciária (Judicial Police), is organising a cybercrime seminar open to all at the Conrad Hotel in Quinta do Lago on Monday, December 9 from 6pm to 8pm. The event is supported by the British-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.

Key note speakers are Inspector Ricardo Valadas from the Polícia Judiciária and Eng. Lino Santos, director of ‘Segurança e Serviços à Comnidade’ (community safety and support services) from the Fundação para a Computação Científica Nacional (FCCN), both renowned experts in cybercrime and cyber security in Portugal.

Topics to be covered include the work of the Polícia Judiciária in investigating cybercrime in Portugal, the work of the FCCN, technical developments, cyber attacks and preventing such attacks, types of online fraud, child protection, phishing and preventative measures.

Newly-elected Mayor of Loulé Vítor Aleixo will deliver the welcoming address. Organisers believe this is the first seminar of its type to be held in the south of Portugal.

The event is in English and entry is free.

As seating is limited, attendance is on a first-come-first-served basis. Seat reservation is recommended.
