Despite the rainfall during the 7th Open Door event at Quinta dos Vales in Estômbar on October 21, nearly 800 people attended on the day to taste the winery’s newly released red wines – Primeira Selecção 2010 and Grace Vineyard 2008.
In a last-minute move to proceed with the event due to the inclement weather, the many exhibitors who were due to display their products around the Adega and Sculpture Garden had to find cover in the terrace and Sala de Prova (Tasting Room). Exhibitors were of course delighted, as the unexpected weather allowed guests to remain around the stands a little longer, which led to positive sales results.
Dancers from Academia de Dança de Albufeira – A Dança Portugal performed in the covered terrace, adding to the enjoyment of all, who browsed through the various stalls selling regional produce, arts and crafts.
In the Sala de Prova, visitors admired the paintings by Evelyn Sattler and Eliza Zorkow.
Next year
From 2013, Open Door events at Quinta dos Vales will take place on the first Sunday of April and October, hopefully increasing the chances of sunshine during the events.
Meanwhile, Quinta dos Vales will be sharing a stand with OrbisVini at the ProWein event in Dusseldorf, Germany in early March 2013.
The winery’s online shop is also fully functional again. “The downside is that all rosés have sold out and we only have one white wine available – the Grace Vineyard 2011 – from our five white varieties,” said a spokesman for Quinta dos Vales. “We are therefore very happy with the results of the 2012 wines.”
The rosé and white wines will be launched during the 8th Open Door event on April 7 2013. “Fifty percent of our varietal white wines are already reserved,” concluded the spokesman.
