Cross-border cooperation to boost cultural events on both sides of border
A new agreement to bolster cultural events along the Algarve-Andalusia border region was signed at Spain’s International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid this Wednesday.
The memorandum – signed by the Algarve’s Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), the Guadiana Eurocity and the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) – will increase collaboration between authorities on both sides of the border to promote music, dance and other cultural events in the municipalities of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António in Algarve (Portugal) and Ayamonte in Andalusia (Spain).
Traditional music and dance will be prioritised, with a focus on groups from the Algarve region and the province of Huelva, such as orchestras and philharmonic bands, instruments such as the accordion and guitar and performing arts such as the “Algarve and/or Andalusian dance,” the CCDR said.
The agreement also includes plans to commemorate key dates such as Europe Day (May 9) and European Music Day (June 21).
The Guadiana Eurocity, established in 2013, serves as a European Grouping of Cross-Border Cooperation (EGCC) designed to enhance ties in areas such as culture, economy, and environment.
