Death of baby during childbirth: INEM opens inquiry

INEM medical emergency institute has opened an inquiry into the death of a baby during childbirth recently. According to some reports, the parents, residents of Ermidas Sado, Santiago do Cacém, claim a two-hour delay before arriving at Beja hospital – and authorities’ ‘lack of quick decision making’ – led to the tragic outcome. The baby was at week 32 in gestation – a point that should be viable but is still a good six weeks from term. Reports refer to the mother arriving at Beja hospital ‘soaked in blood due to various hemorrhages’.
