Deep in despair

Olhanense again failed to show any cohesion as they suffered a fourth consecutive defeat. Rio Ave arrived at the Algarve Stadium last Sunday having won four of their five away games whilst Olhanense had won only two home games and scored a mere three goals in the process. In a scrappy game neither side showed any flair and both goalkeepers had a quiet afternoon. It looked as if the game was heading for a 0-0 stalemate but the dismissal of Olhanense full-back Seric, for a two footed tackle, in the 71st minute spurred the visitors on. Ten minutes later a teasing free-kick from the left evaded everyone except keeper Belec who could only push the ball away. Former Olhanense favourite Ukra, he played a pivotal role when Olhanense gained promotion in 2009, was on hand to slot the ball home.

This was poor pre-Christmas fodder to serve up for the fans who showed their displeasure by booing the team off at the end of the game.
