An interview with Defence Minister Nuno Melo has seen him defending the resolution of problems in the police, and the Armed Forces, “in the same plan”. Asked by Expresso whether police forces will all receive the same ‘risk supplement’ awarded to PJ (judicial police) – a cause that has seen (and ostensibly will continue to see) angry protests, Mr Melo answered: “it would be very strange if, when a negotiation process is underway, you announced, in an interview, specific solutions that don’t depend” on you (…) A process is underway and I hope, I believe, that the government will translate into concrete measures, as far as possible, taking into account budgetary contingencies, measures that will be useful and important for the security forces, for the PSP and the GNR.”
