Deportations of Portuguese up 43% in 2024

The number of Portuguese people expelled or deported to Portugal last year increased by 43% compared to 2023, and almost 1500 are serving sentences abroad, according to the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI) presented today. The document reveals that 387 people were removed, expelled or deported to Portugal last year – 117 more than in 2023. The majority  came from European countries (257, or 66%), with 130 (34%) arriving from countries outside Europe.
