Portuguese territories under orange and yellow weather warnings
Sixteen mainland districts and the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores will be under orange and yellow weather warnings until Wednesday thanks to the effects of depression Garoe.
Some areas may be feeling they have had enough water already this winter, but not the Algarve which is welcoming these downpours.
IPMA meteorological institute announced Garoe’s arrival over the weekend
Only the districts of Bragança and Guarda appear to be escaping Garoe’s effects.
The districts of Faro (meaning the Algarve) and Beja are under orange warnings until 3pm today. The forecast will then reduce to yellow warnings until 6am on Wednesday.
Both districts are also under orange warnings for rough seas until mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
Setúbal, Lisbon and Leiria districts are also under orange warnings for rough seas, while the districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga are braced for heavy rain, possibly thunderstorms, again until Wednesday. Ditto Évora, Setúbal, Santarém, Portalegre, Leiria, Castelo Branco and Coimbra.
The north and south coasts of the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are also under an orange warning, more for Tuesday, before turning yellow towards Wednesday, while the south coast and mountainous regions of the island of Madeira are also facing heavy rain.
Wind warnings remain in place until Tuesday.
The nine islands of the Azores are also under orange and yellow warnings.
The situations should have all calmed considerably by the end of Wednesday.
