Difficult times

A SURVEY carried out by the Associação Industrial Portuguesa (AIP) has concluded that the economic and financial situation of Portuguese companies is ‘worrying’ but not ‘drastic yet’.

“We understand that the country and the economy are going through difficult times but not as dramatic as some would have us believe,” said AIP President Rocha de Matos, who last week presented the ‘Survey into Company Activities 2008’.

Modernisation and expansion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) were “imperative”, said the AIP president, who also highlighted the necessity to improve credit access for companies, which, in turn, needed to diversify and widen their export markets in relation to emerging economies.
