‘Disagreement’ in Leiria ends with young man suffering 15 stab wounds

Argument started between two women after night out, say reports

A ‘disagreement’ between two young couples at the tail end of a night out in Leiria ended in the early hours of Saturday morning with one young man being rushed to hospital with no less than 15 stab wounds.

The story – which is far from clear at this point – sees the victim in hospital, with a perforated lung, among all his other injuries.

Local paper Região de Leiria has seen hundreds of people sharing and commenting on the story, saying how the situation on the streets at night in Leiria is no longer ‘safe’.

Correio da Manhã tabloid alludes to these comments in its story today, saying the knife used in the attack has yet to be found, along with the man who weilded it.

“The two couples had been enjoying themselves in night spots and were returning home when the disagreement occurred”, says the paper.

“The area is covered by CCTV cameras. CM knows that the images captured have been saved, which means they may help police understand what exactly happened, and identify those involved”.

The incident took place in a pedestrian street (Rua da Graça) running off from Praça Rodrigues Lobo.

As to the reasons behind the disagreement, CM simply says “it was not possible to understand what started it, but it rapidly developed into a brawl involving also the two men” accompaying the women.

The 26-year-old man is described as in a serious condition in Leiria’s Santo André hospital, with stab wounds mainly in his stomach and back.
