Discover Medronho distilleries on March 8

Cortelha is organising a walking tour of arbutus brandy distilleries as part of its Brandy and Honey Fair.

Cortelha, in the heart of the municipality of Loulé, is hosting the 2025 edition of its Brandy and Honey Fair, on March 8, featuring yet another walking tour of the area’s Medronho distilleries.

During this time of year, the arbutus brandy producers in the Serra do Caldeirão are diligently preparing the «caldeiras» for the distillation of medronho.

Having devoted November to harvesting the arbutus fruit, they are now concentrating on producing and sampling the final product: the authentic and highly esteemed Medronho brandy.

The walking tour features visits to several arbutus brandy distilleries, an opportunity to admire the stunning landscapes that the mountain offers at this time of year, and a mountain lunch at the Brandy and Honey Fair venue.

The route stretches approximately 11 kilometres, with departure scheduled for 09h00 and registrations can be made online and costs €20.

The organisation will also support participants throughout the event by providing water, fruit, and cakes. After enjoying their lunch, participants will have the opportunity to visit the various producers and artisans at the fairgrounds, as well as enjoy the sounds of traditional music alongside lively performances on stage.
