Discovery of medieval bridge delays Metro works in Porto

A Porto Metro official said today that the discovery of a 13th-century bridge during the Metro do Porto works in the River Vila area is delaying completion of that section of the project by six week.”During the work on the Vila river, at the intersection of Rua Mouzinho da Silveira and Largo de São Domingos, we found a medieval bridge from the late 13th century with a degree of preservation that nobody expected,” Pedro Lé Costa, project manager for the Porto Metro’s Pink Line (Casa da Música – São Bento), told Lus. At issue is a bridge that predates the opening of Rua de São João in 1765 and Rua Mouzinho da Silveira in 1875. No-one imagined it still existed, Porto Canal reported the news today.
