Don’t miss Castro Marim’s Medieval Days this week!

This is considered the town’s biggest summer event

Visitors to Castro Marim this week will be able to experience what it was like to live in medieval times as the town is again hosting the popular ‘Dias Medievais’ (Medieval Days) from August 23 to 27.

This is considered the town’s biggest summer event and one of the highlights of the eastern Algarve’s August agenda. So much so that organisers, the local municipality, began preparing for this year’s event almost as soon as last year’s ended.

Having the castle as the main stage, the event is famous for its colourful street entertainment, medieval tournaments on horseback, exhibitions of arts and crafts, and even a ‘royal medieval banquet’ and an opportunity to be “King for an Evening’.

Visitors can also explore dozens of stalls selling a variety of Medieval-themed products, see a display of instruments of torture and more.

A medieval parade will take place on the first and last day of the event (August 23 at 7pm and August 27 at 5.30pm).

Tickets for Dias Medievais can be purchased each day of the event from 3pm at the ticket offices, however, the activities will only start at 6pm, closing at midnight.

Ticket prices range from €4 to €60, depending on the visitor’s age and which parts of the fair visitors want to access (the street fair, the castle, the Forte de São Sebastião) and whether you want to take part in the medieval banquet and be “King for an Evening”. Tickets can be purchased at BOL.
