Douro helicopter crash pilot’s lawyer calls for ‘impartial investigation’

The lawyer for the pilot of the helicopter that crashed into the River Douro, killing five elite GNR military last week has called today for”an impartial and unbiased investigation“, insisting that the accident was caused by a “mechanical fault” in the aircraft, and had nothing to do with a manoeuvre to avoid a bird strike moments before. “We want a guarantee, for us and for the victims’ families, that there will be an impartial investigation into the accident, which involves various organisations,” Albano Cunha told Lusa, adding that he wanted to know “who the experts are and which organisations they represent”. Albano Cunha has been quoted since this accident, initially described by the press as pilot Luís Rebelo’s close friend.
