An earthquake measuring a 4.7 magnitude on the Richter scale and located 110km southeast of Cadiz was felt on December 16 in the Loulé area.
IPMA, the Portuguese institute of sea and atmosphere, registered the quake at 7.06am. There were no injuries and no damage reported.
On the Mercalli scale – used to determine the intensity of a quake when it refers to people and buildings – the quake was set at level III.
