Famous for its delicious bread, the rural town of São Marcos da Serra in Silves is also known for its mouth-watering Easter cake, the Folar. An event to showcase this traditional, seasonal “sweet bread” is taking between March 30 and April 1 during the 20th Feira do Folar.
The São Marcos da Serra Folar is unique for containing a hard-boiled egg in the middle of it.
Recipes vary from region to region, but the ‘folares’ made in São Marcos da Serra are known as some of the most delicious in the Algarve.
The event will also feature musical entertainment, religious celebrations and handicraft.
Festivities begin at 11am on all three days in front of the local church.
Feira do Folar is organised by Silves council, with the support of the local parish council, Serrano Futebol Clube, the humanitarian association of São Marcos, Crédito Agrícola and the Algarve Tourism Board.
Admission is free.
