“We invite all members of the community to join us” – Algarve Diocese
The Algarve Diocese’s Tourism Pastoral Care announces a series of English Holy Week celebrations at the Church of Santiago in Tavira.
These special services have been organized to serve the English-speaking community residing in the Algarve and visitors who wish to participate in the sacred liturgies and traditions of this important time in the Christian calendar.
Says the Algarve Diocese: “We invite all members of the community to join us in prayer and reflection, as we commemorate the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Schedule of celebrations in English:
- Palm Sunday, April 13, 10.30am – Palm Mass at Santiago Church, Tavira
- Holy Tuesday, April 15, 4pm-7.30pm – Confessions in English at Santiago Church, Tavira
- Holy Wednesday, April 16, 6pm – Way of the Cross (Via Crucis) in English, beginning at Santiago Church and proceeding through the streets of Tavira’s historic centre.
- Holy Thursday, April 17, 6pm – Mass of the Lord’s Supper in English at Santiago Church, Tavira
- Good Friday, April 18, 5pm – Celebration of the Lord’s Passion in English at Santiago Church, Tavira
- Easter Sunday, April 20, 10.30am – Easter Sunday Mass of the Resurrection in English at Santiago Church, Tavira
