easyJet reopens Faro base for 2025 summer

easyJet will operate 19 routes through the high season at Faro Airport

British low-cost airline easyJet has officially reopened its Faro base for the summer of 2025.

Originally inaugurated in the summer of 2021, the base will operate 19 routes throughout the high season.

The airline will maintain operations at Faro until the end of October, deploying a fleet of four aircraft – two Airbus A319s and two Airbus A320s – stationed at the base. These will supplement the five aircraft that serve Faro year-round from other easyJet bases, boosting the total capacity to over two million seats for the summer season, the airline says in a statement.

It adds that the reopening of the base will continue driving tourism in the Algarve by offering direct flights from various European cities, including several in France (Bordeaux, Lyon, Nantes, Paris Orly, Toulouse), the UK (Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Southend, Manchester, Southampton), Ireland (Belfast), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), and Switzerland (Basel, Geneva, Zurich).

“We began flying to Faro Airport in 1999, and since then, we have operated over 190,000 flights, carrying more than 24 million passengers to and from the airport. By reopening our Faro base, we are contributing to the Algarve’s economic and tourism development. We have also increased local employment, with 167 staff members now working at the base, helping us operate 19 routes this summer with a total capacity of over two million passengers.”

easyJet began operating in Portugal in July 1998 and currently operates three based in Portugal – Lisbon, Porto and Faro – while also serving the island destinations of Funchal and Porto Santo.
