Eight hurt in latest “street bullfight” event in Coruche

Following serious injuries received by young German in a “largada de touros” (kind of traditional street bullfight) in Ourique earlier this month, another eight people have been injured at another series of similar events, this time in Coruche – among them a 10-year-old girl, who had to be assisted at Lisbon’s Santa Maria hospital. According to reports, two of the eight injured suffered ‘serious injuries’: a 50 year old man, and a 60-year-old woman. Local mayor Francisco Oliveira ‘lamented’ the injuries but “reaffirms the defence of bullfighting activities that are strongly rooted in Ribatejo, and which are part of the values, culture, tradition and identity of the region’s populations”, writes maisribatejo online.
