While the popularity of electric cars is stalling in Europe, the opposite seems to be happening in Portugal. The majority (55%) of new cars purchased in the first nine months of this year were powered by alternative energies (electric and hybrid); around a third (36%) by petrol and 8.7% by diesel, reports ACAP, the Portuguese Automobile Association, specifying that 18.4% of the new passenger vehicles were electric. “There are still signs of concern”, however, explain reports “accumulated sales – between January and September – are 9.5% lower than the same period in 2019, while the ‘main segment’ (passenger cars) shows only a 2.9% year-on-year increase.
