Aveiro’s electric ferry service had to be suspended yesterday because the jetty it uses had sunk. According to reports, “the problem was detected on Tuesday evening, and was caused by a fissure in the structure”. Divers and technical experts were trying to sort out a solution yesterday. Hopes were that a substitute jetty will be ‘found’, if not floated’, very soon. The local mayor was at pains to stress that this unfortunate situation has not resulted in any damage to Salicórnia, the state of the art ferry that only entered service last month.
