Electricity bills due to increase by between €6 – €13 a month

Consumer association DECO warns that homeowners’ electricity bills are due to increase this month, and every subsequent month afterwards, by between €6-€13 – the reason being an increase in energy rents, which have soared by €878 million (compared to what was estimated six months ago) to €2.6 billion. The increase is due to be felt most in the liberalised market, warns tabloid Correio da Manhã, and stems from what it calls the “political costs of electricty” that involve subsidies for renewable energies, which have to be ‘offset’ by consumers in the guise of “access to networks”.
