Elite boxers expected in Lagoa for Algarve Box Cup

Event brings together elite boxers from across the globe

For the third year in a row, Lagoa will host the prestigious Algarve Box Cup, an international boxing event featuring top-tier male and female boxers.

Planned for December 6, 7, and 8, the tournament will take place at Lagoa’s Jacinto Correia municipal sports pavilion and is set to be the largest boxing event in the Algarve and one of the biggest in Portugal.

This year’s edition will feature over 120 elite athletes from 17 countries, including teams from Norway, Switzerland, Cuba, and Italy. Recognised as a key event by the Portuguese Boxing Federation, the Algarve Box Cup is “unique” at the national level, being the only competition exclusively for elite Olympic boxing athletes. A total of €12,000 in prize money will be awarded to winners across the several weight categories”.

Sandra Silva, the brand owner behind Algarve Box Cup, sees this event as a landmark achievement. “The Algarve Box Cup was a challenging initiative, but this edition is the culmination of all the hard work carried out over previous years,” Silva says. “This level of excellence is only possible thanks to the strong collaboration with the municipality and all stakeholders involved. The people of Lagoa have embraced this event as part of their sports culture. The Algarve Box Cup is a stage for the world’s best boxers, making it an unforgettable spectacle for boxing fans and sports lovers alike!

The event is also part of the municipal sports development strategy, entitled ‘Lagoa Acolhe Grandes Eventos’ (Lagoa Hosts Great Events), which aims to bolster the economy by hosting sports events and promoting sports as a means to a healthy lifestyle.

Tickets will cost €10 for one day and €20 for a three-day pass and will be sold at the venue.
