Employers warn consular network promised for hiring immigrant labour “must be ready fast”

Employers within various sectors have stressed that the setting up of ‘the consular network’ promised by the government to oversee immigrant hiring in countries of origin, cannot take too long: the summer is almost here and job vacancies are appearing across the board. As recent data has shown, non-Portuguese are heavily employed in agriculture and fisheries (41%); tourism (31%) and construction (23%) – and this is before one considers the TVDE/ food delivery sectors.
