Colégio Santiago Internacional is a bilingual primary and secondary school in Tavira, established in 2012. CSi is an independent, open-admission and co-educational school and serves both the international community in the area and also Portuguese citizens who want to access an internationally recognised education.
In 2012, CSi opened its doors and welcomed 12 students. We have seen very steady growth since then and our current enrolment is 155 students from 32 different nationalities. We also have seven nationalities represented on our staff, all with internationally recognised qualifications and credentials.
CSi is located in the centre of Tavira, in a beautiful 15th century building which once served as a hospital for the local community. Our building has been renovated and refurbished to modern, state-of-the-art standards while retaining and maintaining the ancient beauty of the building and many of the original features.
It has 16 classrooms, including a science laboratory, a music studio, a radio station, an IT room and an art room. We also have a canteen, staff room and some offices as well as a large playground with sports and leisure facilities.
In CSi, differentiated teaching and learning is our focus, therefore, our education is designed, tailored and personalised according to each individual student’s needs. The educational program follows the National Curriculum of England model and guidelines, but the delivery is unique to each child.
In secondary school, we offer many GCSE, IGCSE and A Level options and we have excellent exam results and transfer to university record. Our subject range includes Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Russian languages, Mathematics and Sciences including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Statistics and Psychology. Our humanities subjects include History, Geography, Sociology, English Literature, Drama, Music, Art and Design. Business and Economics. Physical Education is compulsory for all students and is also available as an exam option.
We take great pride in our mission and vision to deliver a differentiated and personalised curriculum and to encourage and empower our students to reach their full potential and contribute as global citizens.
We work tremendously hard to achieve a balance between academic, social, cultural and physical activities and our purpose is to create a stimulating and active learning environment within which all members of our community can achieve their full potential. We aim to foster our students’ intellectual curiosity, which will nurture their innate desire for lifelong learning.
For anyone who is considering a move to the Algarve, or for anyone already here and looking for excellence in education for their child, we would love an opportunity to meet with you and discuss your child’s future and education. We always invite parents and families to visit CSi, meet our staff and students, to come and see for yourselves what we have to offer and to get a feel for the warm Algarvian welcome available in CSi.
