English woman, 87, airlifted to hospital from cruise ship off Azores

An 87-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital by a Portuguese naval helicopter on Wednesday after becoming critically unwell on a cruise ship south of São Miguel island in the Azores. The rescue mission began at 5.30pm local time (6.30pm on the mainland) and ended only at 1.50am local time today. The woman was on the ‘Ambition’ cruiseship which is on the last leg of a transatlantic voyage that took in brazil, the islands of Trinidade and Tobago, Grenada and Barbados.
