Following yesterday’s new bombshell, delivered by appeal court judges in Lisbon to the investigation that directly led to the political situation in which Portugal is in today, political leaders of all colours have been pontificating on the doubts and conclusions drawn from the ups and downs of Operation Influencer. CHEGA’s leader André Ventura believes there is now “enormous pressure on Justice to clear” the former prime minister’s name (and leave him free to pursue political aspirations in Europe). For now, the Attorney General’s Office insists it will be continuing with its investigations… The verbatim translation of the single paragraph statement by the Attorney General’s Office today reads: “The Public Prosecutor’s Office, despite the decision handed down, will continue its investigations, with the aim, under the terms of the law, of ascertaining the facts likely to be part of the commission of criminal offences, determining the perpetrators and their responsibility”
