Fifteen Portuguese environmental organisations have sent an open letter to the prime minister Luís Montenegro, and minister of the environment Maria de Graça Carvalho appealing for the government to adopt “an ambitious position in the negotiation of the EU’s Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, with regard to environmental and social priorities”. The letter comes ahead of an informal meeting of the European Council next week where representatives of member States will be discussing the EU’s priorities for the next five years. European civil society organisations want decision-makers to “prioritise nature and a socially just transition to a climate-neutral Europe, with a resilient economy”.
