Estoi Rotary Club supports local school communities

Algarve Rotary Club is keen to help students with their futures

March was a busy month for the Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) who enthusiastically showed their support for local schools.

On March 13, members of RCEPI and guests gathered for a lunch at Escola Básica Poeta Emiliano da Costa (Estoi School). Under the guidance of Prof. David Filipe, students took charge of preparing and serving a delectable meal that left all attendees impressed.

The primary aim of the lunch was to raise funds for the school’s much-needed new floor in the students’ common room. Through the generous contributions of RCEPI members and attendees €400 was raised, bringing the school closer to realising this essential improvement.

A highlight of the event was the presence of Francisco Soares, Director of the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group, who graced the occasion as a special guest. His presence further underscored the importance of community collaboration in supporting educational institutions.

Richard Thorpe, President of RCEPI, admired the students’ excellence and remarked: “RCEPI always supports the local community, and it’s a real delight to witness the talent and dedication of the students here at Estoi School. The warmth and hospitality extended to us make us feel not just welcomed but embraced by the school community. It’s moments like this that remind us of what we can achieve together.”

The success of this fundraising lunch not only demonstrates the solidarity within Estoi but also highlights the enduring partnership between RCEPI and Estoi School. Such initiatives serve as a testament to the power of collective action in fostering positive change within communities.

Days later, on March 21, RCEPI hosted two events to support students in planning for their futures.

At Escola Básica Poeta Emiliano da Costa (Estoi School), RCEPI’s Head of Youth Services, Pauline Burnham, organized the annual careers talks for final year students.

Four professionals shared insights into their fields: Ana Mendonça discussed Environmental Engineering, Anne Gompel encouraged careers in the world of medicine, Pedro Rego, a local vet, highlighted opportunities in animal-related careers, and Pedro Guerreiro shared thoughts on his work as a Biological Science Investigator, inspiring students with their passion.

Later that day, RCEPI partnered with Rotary Club of Loulé for a fundraising dinner at Escola Secundária de Loulé (ESL) to support students attending summer camps as part of the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme. These camps foster cultural exchanges, promoting international understanding and peace.

The dinner, prepared by ESL catering students under teacher supervision, was a tremendous success, raising over €900 with the generous support of 41 guests.

RCEPI extends its gratitude to ESL Director Prof. Renato Afonso, staff, students, RCEPI member Raymond Parfait, Silverio Guerreiro, President of Rotary Club Loulé, and all contributors for the event’s success.
