EU commissioner favours 4-day working week to respond to labour shortage

At a time when Portugal is moving forward with a pilot project on the possibility of a 4-day working week, the European Employment Commissioner has said he is all for it in the European Union (EU), namely for sectors with labour shortages – pointing out that the concept should move forward based on agreements with social partners. “I think it is something that is progressively moving forward (…), because new generations that have a certain vision about the balance between work and personal life” and “I am open to that”, Nicolas Schmit told Lusa news agency in Brussels.
